    What is Hot Melt Road Marking Paint?


    Hot melt road marking paint, also called thermoplastic road marking paint, is a solid, heat-applied coating used for road markings like lines and symbols. It’s melted at 180–200°C, applied to pavement, and cools quickly to form a durable, reflective layer. Composed of thermoplastic resins, pigments, glass beads, and fillers, it’s long-lasting (1–5 years), eco-friendly (low VOCs), and highly visible, ideal for highways, parking lots, and crossings.

    Steps to Use Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint


    1. Prepare the Road Surface
      • Ensure the road is clean, dry, and free of debris, loose material, or oil. A well-prepared surface is crucial for proper adhesion.
    2. Heat the Paint
      • Start with thermoplastic paint in solid form (pellets or blocks).
      • Melt it in a specialized melter or pre-heater to approximately 200°C (392°F). The temperature must be controlled to keep the paint fluid without degrading it.
    3. Apply the Paint
      • Use a specialized machine to apply the molten paint. There are two common methods:
        • Extrusion: The paint is pushed through a die to form precise lines or shapes.
        • Spray: The paint is sprayed for larger areas or faster application.
      • Aim for a thickness of 1.5–3 mm for optimal durability and adhesion.
    4. Add Glass Beads
      • Sprinkle glass beads onto the wet paint while it’s still hot. These enhance reflectivity, making the markings more visible at night or in low-light conditions.
    5. Allow Cooling
      • The paint cools and hardens quickly, often within minutes. However, keep traffic off the area until it’s fully set to ensure a strong bond with the road.
